New Theory of Flight Presented at 2nd AIAA High Lift Prediction Workshop

The Direct Fem Simulation (DFS) of the flow of air around an aircraft underlying the New Theory of Flight, which was rejected 2012 by AIAA Journal and is now in review by Journal of Mathematical Fluid Mechanics, was presented by Johan Jansson at the 2nd AIAA High Lift Prediction Workshop in San Diego June 22-23, 2013.

As shown in the Agenda and Summary our contribution stands out as the most advanced simulation technique based on ab initio solution of the incompressible Navier-Stokes equations, without any turbulence model and with a slip boundary condition as an accurate model of small skin friction of high Reynolds number flow, using a stabilized adaptive finite element method.

Our results of the workshop show that ab initio simulation (DFS) of the complex aerodynamics of complete aircraft during start and landing is possible, which reveals the true secret of flight and opens the possibility of constructing fully realistic flight simulators.

  1. No where in the Agenda or Summary is your contribution stated to be advanced in any way.

  2. Yes it is. It is the most advanced as direct simulation of turbulent flow with adaptive a posteriori output error control based on duality. No modeling but as good results as anything. This is new and it is advanced.
